Here’s what happens when you’re gained a few hundred metres in elevation, have more to go, and it’s not even lunch yet.

We were leaving the Red Plateau cache when the idea for an animated gif struck. I asked one of the hikers, Rob Carrelli if he was game. Nope. So I volunteered, and Rob held the camera. Thanks, Rob.

Was looking at the flickr group Kamloops – Large Landscapes and saw this photo.

What to do when there's too much blue in your pic.

What to do when there's too much blue in your pic.

What a great shot, but as the photographer “our world, our times” says, “I was unable to remove the blue hue caused by the chopper’s bubble.”

Through some patience using Levels in Photoshop, I was able to come up with the photo below. Not perfect, but it addresses eliminating much of the blue.

Thanks “our world, our times” for the exercise… You had me scratching my head a few times along the way. :)

This is the result after some adjusting through levels.

This is the result after some adjustments through levels.

Rather than use layers and masks, I worked exclusively on the original background layer.

To remove the blueIn Levels go to the Blue channel and remove according to what you feel is best. Then remove some red from the Red channel (this addresses the magenta). Then add some yellow through the Yellow channel and green through the Green channel. Then, adjust using Levels RGB to lighten and darken as necessary. Some steps may need to be done in increments. Better to under-do a few times and maintain control than go overboard and try to restore the colours .

During all this, I darkened the sky using the Burn tool so as not to lose too much information during the various lightening steps.

The finished product will depend largely on personal preference. In my version the green may be too green or too yellow. Or not enough on either, or both. What do you think?

Here is a glimpse of a geocaching trip to Knutsford, B.C. on Labour Day 2011 with Robo 2200 (AKA Rob Carrelli). The trip was by bicycle and maybe a roundtrip of 35 kilometres.

My BlackBerry Curve served as the camera that day.

The only interesting creature spotted on the journey. This daredevil was playing chicken with the vehicles. After this photo, I had one more to take before placing it off the road and in the direction it was headed. Hopefully, I didn't disrupt the course of history too much.

Yikes, a troll jumps out of the cache box.

At the Cairn cache. We thought this was the cairn, but it's across the road as we found out after looking at the cache description online. Have to return sometime and check it out.

Robo stands reverent, or irreverent. Not quite sure with him.

Scenic shot on the trip back. There's no shortage of sky and endless scenery.

Another in my ongoing animated gif experiments. This is inside the 360-degree room that's part of the new House of Learning building at Thompson Rivers University. This is handheld, f 4.5, shutter 1/50, ISO 1000. This was shot with my work camera, a Canon 30D and a 17-85mm 4.5-5.6 at 17mm f 4.0.

Students walk by a poster board near the Cashier's office in Old Main. Notice how much of a breeze is caused by the passersby.

This is made up of 75 photos. Another hand held experiment. Can I get an Amen on the deplorable state of the lighting in Old Main?

Even as a thumbnail, the above gif is 692 kb. During the save for web & devices process, I reduced the colours to 195 from 256 and brought the size down to 55 % of the original 300px x 202px

Meanwhile, the one below is 235 colours and 60 % the original size of 300px x 202 px.

3 flags fly @ Thompson Rivers University

This is the Japanese flag flying alongside the Canadian and British Columbia flags on Monday, March 14, 2011.

This is 65 frames spaced .099 seconds apart using the animation setting in Photoshop. In the field, the frames were about a second apart. The scene was pre focussed and then set to manual focus.

Yes, I know I would have benefited from using a tripod, but none was available at the time.
